Jealous Girl

This is another layout made with the Glitz Design papers from The Scrapbook Garden. I used several of the papers to cut banner strips to create a mat for the title. I've also used the off cut from the circles that I punched for this layout, and then doodled and journalled around it.
The title uses the MME Lush alphas - this is Mojo's worried expression, when she thinks one of the cats is getting too close to my knee!

I created another rosette using the scoring board, and topped it with a Bazzill die cut flower and a Delish Designs brad. I've also used some of the shapes from the alpha set as embellishments.

I also layered up several of the remaining Bazzill die cut flowers to create one large one, and finished it with a Delish Designs brad. I used the brad to secure the tulle to the layout, which created the lovely fan effect on the left.

Rosette Minibook

As I am now the proud owner of a Martha Stewart scoring board, I thought I'd make good use of it for my next project for The Scrapbook Garden. I created this little mini book from a single sheet of double sided patterned paper from Glitz Designs for the centre, and a smaller piece to wrap round for the cover.

I also had a go at making a rosette (I know, I'm so behind the times...) and I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt. I finished it off with a Delish Designs brad in the centre - I absolutely love these brads, I've used every single one that Ann sent me, and I'm so sad that they've gone! They coordinate so beautifully with the Glitz Design papers.

I finished off with some Bazzill tulle to tie the book closed. I haven't added anything to the inside yet, mainly because I'm not sure what to put in it! Any ideas?

Time Canvas

When I saw the Tando Creative chipboard clock pieces in the kit that Ann sent me from The Scrapbook Garden, I knew I wanted to do something a bit different with it, so I decided to have a play with a 5x7 canvas board.

I covered the board with pages from an old sewing book, and then layered some scraps from the Prima and Glitz Design papers, including a piece that I'd punched some butterflies from - never throw anything away! I gave the whole lot a coat of watered down gesso to tone it down, and then added some more with giant bubble wrap. I added some texture with a Kaisercraft grid stamp and plum archival ink, and a Tim Holtz script stamp with coffee archival ink.

I painted the clock pieces with a black paint dabber. The paint is quite runny so it had lots of air bubbles in it, but I let it dry that way rather than smoothing it out to give a distressed finish. I wanted the hands to stand out more so I embossed them with clear embossing powder (after a failed attempted with silver liquid pearls, which left a bit of residue behind, oh well!). I finished the clock with a Delish Designs brad for a bit of interest. 

I used the same script stamp on the MME Lush alphas with watermark ink and then embossed them with the clear embossing powder to give them some extra texture. To create the rest of the quote (which is from one of my favourite Nine Inch Nails songs, Zero Sum) I used alpha stamps on white card, cut them out and doodled around them. I also added some doodling  around one of the butterflies and at random points on the canvas. 

Projects like this are a great way to use scraps, if you haven't tried it already you should!

This is my second layout using the brand new papers that Ann sent to me from The Scrapbook Garden. I've used the same Prima papers from the last layout (from the new 'Almanac' collection).

I started off with a plain black background (Bazzill cardstock in 'Blackbird') and added a couple of stripes of white paint using a paint dabber in the top right and bottom left corners. I then layered pieces of the Prima papers over the top. 

In the top right I added a black and white photo over the papers, and tucked a couple of the Bazzill die cut flowers above and below the bottom paper strip. I gathered a length of the Bazzill tulle and used a tiny attacher to loosely secure it to the paper strip, and finished the left hand side with a Delish Designs brad. I coloured three of the pieces from the Tando Creative 'Hearts and Wings' using a Dylusions ink spray in Hot Pink, and tucked the heart under the tulle strip.

In the bottom left I added my title using MME 'Lush' alphas. I created the layered flower with three of the Bazzill die cut pieces and a Delish Designs brad. I curled the petals to give the flower dimension, and then added the wings to either side.

This is my second layout for Ann at The Scrapbook Garden, using the new papers that she sent me. I dipped into some of the Glitz Design 'Pretty in Pink' papers for this layout.

I started off with a plain background (Bazzill 'French Vanilla'), which I sprinkled with some black ink. I added some of the gorgeous papers at the top and bottom of the page, and behind the photo.

I wanted to show how versatile punches can be when you're creating your own embellishments. I used two on this layout - a butterfly punch and a circle punch. The butterflies add visual interest and a bit of dimension if you only secure them in the middle and let the wings stand out. I used 7 1" circles for the flower, folding 6 and securing them to the 7th as a base. I finished the centre of the flower with a Delish Designs brad.

Why Can't Dogs Wear Sparkly Shoes? (& 200th post giveaway!)

The challenge over at The Studio this Sunday is to take inspiration from an image found by the lovely Valerie on Pinterest.

I took inspiration from the photo in two different ways, first I echoed the bright colours through my choice of papers (I've used Echo Park's 'This&That Graceful'), and second I used a couple of my handmade crochet flowers to add dimension to the page. 

The title is built up with alpha stamps, Thickers and October Afternoon alpha stickers. I also added some washi tape and bakers twine. Pop over and check out what the rest of the Design Team did - it's amazing how many different variations there are from the same inspiration!

Just Love Your Puzzled Look

Some of the new lines from Winter CHA are starting to arrive at The Scrapbook Garden, and Ann sent me some samples to play with, along with the challenge to create my own handmade embellishments. No problem! For my first layout I chose one of the gorgeous papers from the Prima 'Almanac' collection. The one I chose has some gorgeous cut apart elements on one side, and a lovely pink and white pattern on the other.

I started off by spreading some gesso over a kraft background, with a scrap of leftover card, and then placed my photos. I added some of the cut out elements around the photos, and at the top and bottom of the page. The small alphas in the title are also cut from the same sheet of paper, and the larger chipboard alphas are My Minds Eye.

I made the flower by layering a Bazzill flower die cut, some Bazzill tulle and a Delish Designs brad. I gathered some of the tulle by folding it in half lengthways, and then sewing a loose running stitch through both layers before pulling it tight to form a circle.
I used the sketch from the latest sketch challenge at Scrap365 - I do love a good sketch!

Happy Kitty, Sleepy Kitty, Purr Purr Purr

Yes, I'm a fan of 'Big Bang Theory', and yes, I've seen someone use this as a title before. But don't ask me who, or where - it's one of those things that just crept into the back of my head, and leapt out when I was creating this layout. I started off with just the 'sleepy kitty' part, without the Big Bang reference - she's a kitty and she looks sleepy - but it didn't look quite right somehow. So I put the layout to one side and did something else for a bit. And while I was doing whatever else it was that I was doing, I remembered the layout that I'd seen that used the lyrics to Sheldon's song, and I realised what my layout was missing.

I used the scraps that I had left from a Sarah's Cards kit (whichever month it was that had Crate Paper's 'Random' collection as the focus). I ordered extra bits from the 'Random' collection to go with this kit, and I've used almost all of it. I was a bit stuck with what to do with all of the number stickers, until I decided to create a banner under my photos with them. Unfortunately when I started the banner I failed to notice that I'd already used the '3' on another project, so ended up having to add one from the alpha stickers instead. Oh well, apart from being a little on the small side, I think it works. 

I can't wait for the new Crate Paper collections to make their way over to the UK, they look fabulous!

What part of do not disturb do you not understand?

It's Sunday, so that means it's challenge time over at The Studio again! This week our challenge is to use chevrons on a layout.

I've used the gorgeous new collection from Echo Park, 'This & That: Graceful', with some alphas and butterflies from Studio Calico. There are two lots of chevrons, the black and white patterned paper at the top and bottom, and the handmade chevrons to the right of the photo.

Thank you to everyone who left me a lovely comment on my last post, it's definitely good to know that you're not getting fed up of Mojo layouts! I'm far from fed up of taking photos of her and scrapping them, so there'll be a fair few to come yet :D
